Sam Dooley reports:
For the first time Hyde Park Harriers were represented in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League when Ellie Dooley lined up in the red and white vest against teams from across the county including the likes of Holmfirth, Halifax, and Wakefield as well as a few from out the county - York, Wetherby and Hull came from the North and East Ridings.
Bramley is a tough course that starts with an uphill climb and includes a further hill on the twisting two lapper. A dry stretch through the woods is the only respite on fields that were heavy from recent rain.
The standard across all ages is good and Ellie had to work hard to hold her own around 20th position, with positions changing as the course shifted from uphil to down and back up. As the race came into the finishing straight (Yep...another long climb) Ellie's final kick deserted her and she lost a couple of places..... a sight not often seen, and testament to the hard conditions.
A tough race, a tough field, and a gritty performance from Ellie in an event that boasts superb organisation and very worthy of good support.
The last race of the series is on Sunday 5 December 2010.
