Leeds parkrun completed its third year last week. The event is strongly supported by Hyde Park Harriers, and the records show that to date 46 club members have completed 1823 runs. Distance-wise that equates to over 9000km or approximately 5650 miles. (How far is that? It’s about Lands end to John O’Groats half a dozen times, and a good chunk of a seventh journey too.) No other club has clocked up as many runs…the next nearest club - Abbey Runners - would be 3000 miles behind.
Each time a runner competes, they are awarded points. 100 for winning the race, 99 for second, 98 for third and so on.
For the second year running, Hyde Park Harriers have provided the Ladies points champion. Ellie Dooley - who was 8th last year - quite literally ran away with the competition. With 3930 points she had the title wrapped up in July. And the ladies showed amazing consistency to take seven of the top ten places, incuding top ten places again for Vikki King - who missed a big chunk of the year through injury, Linda Glendinning (last year’s winner), and Liz Green. The men also increased their numbers in the top ten, with 5 club members filling those places. Top of the pile once again was Dave McGuire who finished fifth with 2809 points. Sam Dooley’s Injury perhaps prevented him beating Dave, and maybe achieving a father/daughter double. He was top of the league when he ran his last run of the year, and was gradually overhauled by 5 other runners, including Dave. As with the ladies, there are three new faces in the list.
