Nottingham Marathon and Half Marathon 12.9.10

Well done to all the runners and supporters who took part in the Experian Robin Hood Festival of Running on Sunday.

Chris Jones reports:

We had a great weekend away with lots of high points. Plaudits to Rick for his marathon effort – true grit and iron will from the big fella who kept going when the going got tough. He was ably supported in the first half of the race by Paul who clocked a respectable time in the half.

Also in the half, it was another terrific run from Dave who just keeps churning out top performances. A splendid time as well from Abinesh in his first run in a Hyde Park Harriers vest.

There was wonderful support for the runners from Liz, Jaz, Tess and Jan. Paul and I joined the support group to get round the course for the second half of the marathon to cheer on Rick.

It was a lovely sunny day, but a touch breezy – overheard a surreal conversation between a fairy/angel and his running partner about re-shaping his wings next year to make them more aerodynamic. He seemed to fly past me without any difficulty. The drummers at miles 3.5/10 were particularly inspirational.

There was a top display by Tom and Helen with both the BBQ on Saturday evening and also the Motivation Station (courtesy of Marathon Talk). This was a drinks station at the water park with running music and Tom/Martin at the mike with words of encouragement. The sound system at the water park was amazing; it was like being “The Prisoner” with Tom’s voice coming at you from all different directions at once. Must have been more tiring than running keeping the encouragement going non-stop for several hours.

So proud of you all!  Sounds like a great weekend and great times recorded too.  Well done!
