On Sunday 10.10, 7 intrepid Hyde Park Harriers made their way to Storthes Hall, Huddersfield to take part in this year's Woodland Challenge. This was voted 3rd best race by Runners World readers recently and it really is a great day out for all, with a fun run and face painting for children and a brass band to entertain the spectators while the runners slog their way around the course.
The race was set underway by Dr Ron Hill and the course is six miles-ish mainly through woodland, although there is some road. There are some steep downhills and energy-sapping uphills and as it is two laps, you know you have to do it all again! At the end we were presented with a technical T-shirt and their famous goody-bag (including tins of beans, rice pudding, pots of fruit, ceral bars........!) Dave McGuire was also presented with a hamper as he came third overall.
