Summer Mile

Hyde Park Harriers' inaugural race is a one mile run on ternac paths in Woodhouse Moor (aka Hyde Park) Test yourself over this rarely offered distance. Just how fast can YOU run one mile.


Tell us your expected time and we will match you with 10 - 15 people pf around your speed in a race within a race. Wave one sets off at 7:00pm, with the final wave setting off just before 8:00pm.


Prizes for overall winners and spot prizes in each wave. Novel race memento for all those who complete the course.


Closing date for entry - 17 August 2011. No entry on the night.
Race numbers and wave numbers will be allocated on the night from 6pm. Please allow 30 minutes for registration.


Strict limit of 150 athletes. All standards welcome - age 16 or over.

Race HQ is upstairs at the Packhorse pub, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, LS2 9DX.


HQ is open from 6.00 pm for you to collect your race number and wave
number. There are toilets and a bar serving drinks (no food after 7.00 pm), but
no showers or changing facilities. It is a two-minute jog to the start. There is
no parking at the Packhorse or on Woodhouse Lane, but there is street parking
on Clarendon Rd and surrounding side streets.

The race takes place in Hyde Park (aka Woodhouse Moor) and is accurately
measured. It is run entirely on tarmac paths with some cornering and a slight
hill. The start and finish are near the Queen Victoria statue at the corner of
Woodhouse Lane and Clarendon Rd.

You will be allocated to waves of no more than 15 runners of similar speeds.
Wave One will set off at 7.00 pm, with subsequent waves at regular intervals.
The final wave is expected to set off at around 8.00 pm. You will be asked to
step up to the start as soon as the preceding wave has set off. Warm-up kit
and other belongings will be collected from the start pen and transferred to
the finish area to keep each wave separate.

Times will be announced in Race HQ as soon as possible after the event, when
prizes will be presented. There are prizes for the fastest three men and
women, and spot prizes in each wave. Main prizes will be sent by post if not
claimed on the night, but spot prizes must be claimed in person (or by proxy).
