Sam Dooley reports:
Billed as a 10k at 10:00 on 10/10/10, this was Ellie's first opportunity to run a 10k having reached the ripe old age of 15 just 4 days earlier.
The course was a mixture of grass, paths and woodland gravel trails. Pre race the atmosphere was excellent. A series of tents/stands and pre-race music/commentary from Radio Hallam in the park where the Sheffield parkrun takes place every Saturday.
At the gun Ellie got a good start and avoided much of the crowd as they circled the field before heading out into the woods and out of sight for the next 4k. The route was two laps and took in 1300ft of climb and sharp downhill….something Ellie hadn't bargained on. At the halfway stage she was running well, but had to face the hill again. 52:01 and it was all over - a tough race where only the first 11 broke 40 minutes.
196th overall, 20th lady, but importantly 1st female under 18….which won her £50 in Brooks vouchers. Not a bad debut….
