Dingle Half Marathon – 04.9.10

Chris Jones reports:

This was our second recent race outside England so I guess that makes us international athletes. Got cheap flights direct to Kerry from Manchester and had an excellent weekend with Liz’s sister and brother-in-law who were staying for the week.

The weather defied the forecasters and it felt good to be running on road with plenty of room for manoeuvre. Loads of people from all over the world and a really friendly and well organised event. There was a marathon and ultra (50 mile national championships) taking place alongside the half so some 2,500 individuals enjoying the spectacle of the Atlantic Ocean crashing onto the shore below us.

The first half was very gentle, but it got a bit tougher after that. The free massage and a dip in the Atlantic helped to drain away the lactic acid.

1 John Meade 01:17:20
160 Chris Jones 01:45:13
1041 Liz Jones 02:33:14

1355 people completed the half with only the first nineteen breaking 1 hour 30 minutes. Completely different age profile than a Yorkshire race with lots more younger people and a fair number of walkers.

Dingle peninsula is in the “top 100 places to see” from Trip Advisor – this race is a great way to see it.

Wow - it looks beautiful!  Liking the sound of the massage, but not so keen on the dip in the sea!  Well done both of you.
