A great club championship race in Roberttown today. Excellent turnout too with 13 of us running in the rain and two supporting.
So how was it? "Hilly, wet and you got a glass at the end" was the race report I was given! It can't have been that hilly though because Kay said there was really only one hill at around 5 miles.
Our little club got lots of recognition today though - Dave McGuire won his second prize in as many days by being first in his age group and an incredibly surprised Nicky Woodward won first in her age category and became the first woman in Hyde Park Harriers to win a prize! She had had to have her arm twisted quite firmly to even persuade her to run this morning so it just goes to show that you never know... We also had recognition of a different kind from the commentator who said what a brilliant club we were at giving support to our fellow runners. And he's absolutely right.

To Liversedge for a wet Roberttown 7 miler. A small but perfectly-formed field of runners braved the lashing rain and the challenging hills, and showed themselves to be courageous, supportive… and damp.
Great organisation from the Roberttown hosts, and a nice clutch of results for HPH, including age-category wins for Dave McGuire and Nicky Woodward. Tea and home-made sandwiches in the clubhouse afterwards made for a great finale. A fine lesson in how to put on a race.
Special mention to Vikki, Jan and Val, who cheered and shouted us home when they could have been lying on the sofa eating grapes, and to Tess and Jaz, who pretended to be nervous, but delivered the goods none-the-less.
