Chris Jones reports:
I registered for this race on the evening. There were quite a few familiar faces from Eccleshill, but nobody else from Hyde Park Harriers apart from Liz who took some great photos. The race is based at the Old Sun Hotel at the top of the village of Haworth, so plenty of refreshment for supporters on a sticky evening. The race started at 7.30pm over a hilly, two-lap course. There were four fairly stiff uphill pulls and two ludicrously quick downhill sections.
There was a good field, particularly of more mature runners as this race is part of the Yorkshire Veterans’ Athletics Association championships. I finished 55th out of 158 in 34:19 (6th MV50). The organizers – Keighley and Craven Athletics Club – state that the course is accurately measured which means I ran the last mile in 5:31; it was downhill all the way, but I don’t think I’ve ever run a mile that quickly before. The organisation was excellent with all junctions marshaled by enthusiastic and supportive volunteers.
Well done Chris. Sounds tough but good - particularly like the fast downhill!
