Third 5k of the weekend for Chris, and the second for Liz. This one was really a fun run rather than a serious race – a fast, flat out-and-back of around 5.2k along Morecambe promenade on a hot and sunny Sunday morning.
The race started and ended at the newly refurbished Midland Hotel, which looks a lot better now than it did a few years ago. It was a real family occasion – lots of teams of two and three generations, plus a “Beat the Teacher” competition entered into with energy and spirit by several local schools and a scout group. There was also an MV 85 completing the run.
No formal timing so far – Liz forgot to start her watch and Chris was again protecting an injured hamstring so took things easy to finish in 24th position in 24.31, beaten by several ankle biters. Unfortunately, it seems he didn’t take it easy enough – the swelling and bruising on the back of his right leg are a wonder to behold (see photo below).
This was the 18th running of this annual race with 210 runners taking part. It was also an 11.00 am start so very hot. A fine atmosphere and a good introduction to running for the terrified or the tiny – almost as welcoming as parkrun.
Hope you are going to take it easy for a few days Chris and get that hamstring better.
