A great turn-out from HPH helped Baildon Runners double their previous entry record for the Carnival Canter. This was our first club fell-race, and one that offered a good introduction to the craft, being fairly short (3.5 miles), with a stiff but manageable climb over Baildon Moor to the trig point on Hope Hill. The climb was tough without being too technical, and was followed by a smashing descent with good footing which gave us all chance to practise our downhill technique.
From my vantage point towards the rear of the field I was only able to see around half of our runners, but credit must go to Sue Smith, who ran all the way up Hope Hill (everyone else I saw walked). Given the good times put in by our top runners, I’m guessing that Sue wasn’t the only one to run for the hills.
Very friendly marshals and a good atmosphere as part of the annual carnival. Nice to have Chris T’s Dad running with us.
