Kay Fawcett reports:
A few Hyde Park Harriers travelled a little further today to Castle Howard to take part in a 10k. With a 6k and a fun run and a brilliant looking adventure playground and delicious Yorkshire Dales ice cream there really was something for everyone. I believe there was also a discounted entry to Castle Howard for runners and their family!
Sue Foster, Liz & Chris Jones, Tess Hornsby Smith, Jaz Bangerh and myself ran this while Vikki gave encouragement and captured our efforts on film.
We started by joining in with an aerobic warm up, including, to Liz's amazement, Chris. The start of this trail race was a little crowded but soon spread out, mostly on dirt tracks but included some hills with a somewhat challenging bridge like I have never seen before and then a toughish uphill through a grass field. The worse part being as it was a two lap course you just knew you would have to do it again! As I came to the end of the first lap I was lapped by the lead runner before he turned off to the finish.
Personally after running hard yesterday at parkrun my legs were there just to enjoy the scenery but as I walked a few steps I got plenty of encouragement from a gent from York Knavesmire Harriers who got me running again! Though Chris caught me walking again just before the end!
A beautiful setting with rolling hills and hedgerow flowers - I wanted to stop and take photos!
Unfortunately, I was in a rush to get home but it would have been lovely to take a picnic and have a look round but instead Vikki and I indulged in a post race ice-cream before the drive home.
I would recommend this race, pop it on your calendar and look out for it next year.
Well done all and a big thank you to Vikki who says she will post photos in a few days.
