Several VARR members braved this tough 10k today and did very well. Big congratulations to Dave who was the first Vet 40 today. Well done everyone!
Report from Russell:
" A few VARR runners went out to the Horsforth 10k on Sunday. The first mention is to Dave for getting First Male 40 in a time of 37:44. Marie's time of 46:34 was a PB at this distance. A big well done to both of them.
The course itself starts off in a country lane and goes through some scenic lanes of Apperley Bridge/Horsforth. What Marie's PB does not tell you is the fact that the first 5k is very hilly (and therefore PBs should not really be achievable on such a course). Within 500m of the start, you are soon heading uphill for what seems like an age, before taking a steep downhill, this was then followed by another quite long uphill stretch with a final downhill leading us to the halfway point and onto the canal towpath. Whilst the majority of runners were able to pick up their pace on the towpath, it just seemed to go on and on and on. Finally, we were onto the run into the school, which was very good on the feet as it was on the playing fields.
The finishers' tops are quality and it was well worth paying the entrance fee just for them. Of the 40 or so I have from previous runs, it's pretty much the first one I have which I'd run in.
The final mention is to Ralph Kidner. I was talking to girl at work who lives near to the race venue, she saw some of the race from the top of a bus going to town, she told me that "I hope you beat the man I saw juggling"."
