YVAA is an association
constituted to promote running events for veteran athletes in Track &
Field, Road, Multi-terrain, Fell and Cross Country. It caters for women and men over 35 years of age. Membership is open to members of
athletic clubs affiliated to England Athletics within Yorkshire.
There are 10 Grand Prix
multi-terrain races per year which each have between 120 and 190 runners and
are a great social as well as competitive outing. Each one is organised as
a specialist veteran race by one of the associated clubs and are spread them
out across the region as much as possible.
Hyde Park Harriers has
signed up for this series for 2011-2012.
Individual members of the club aged 35 and over need to register once on
line as individuals - http://www.yvaa.org/SoFar.htm. You will be awarded a number which you
pick up at the first race you attend and which you will retain for the whole
series. You pay £2-£3 on the day
of each race and there’s usually an enormous buffet in the clubhouse after each
race.

The races are run by the whole spectrum of over 35 runners from top local club runners at the front of the field to those just looking for a run and social activity. There are plenty of familiar faces from parkrun, the PECO league and local races.
