This was a category BM fell race around Penistone Hill Country Park, near Haworth. 7 miles with 1,000 foot climb. A good bit further than yesterday, but nowhere near as steep. To be categorised as BM a race must be:
• at least 125 ft (38.1 m) of ascent per mile (1.6 km)
• should not have more than 30% of the race distance on road
• for Medium - over 6 miles (9.6 km)
Most of this race is on a narrow track with no opportunities for overtaking. It is imperative to get as far forward at the start and run the first half mile as hard as possible. I did neither and paid the price. Nevertheless, it was a glorious, still day and the race was run in bleak but beautiful upland countryside. A proper off road race with loads of mud.
