Dave McGuire reports:
A great evening up at Addingham, Ilkley for a midweek fell race. Brilliant atmosphere and an extremely challenging fell run, inspite of one or two pre-race runners suggesting it more of a cross country – yeah right! But they do breed the humans more half goat up these parts!
The views on the way up were stunning - totally stunning on a perfect evening. No time to look around on the way down from the ‘beacon’ where the fell technique really kicks in including a super tight and rocky/ferny guinnell to dance / tip toe through!
Beautiful scenery and really well organised; ran in a competitive but fun spirit. Started at 18th after a mile, dropped one and then worked my way to 15th at the Beacon. On the ‘return’ down hiller two runners went the wrong route, which I benefited from, to get 15th spot and 2nd M40 home. Worked my socks off to get this position but worth it afterwards, with a few decent beers in the White Swann, a buzzing atmosphere for the prize giving session and a can of Carlsburg as my reward for 15th!
Well done Dave. Hope they don't mind you comparing them to goats!
