Today was the first really cold morning with a temperature of 2 degrees at 8:30. It had been raining lots so the ground was really slippy. We did wonder whether the run would actually go ahead today because there was a police evidence tent and two officers across the path we go along at the start. Luckily, we could continue and had to run on the muddy grass to get round it. Good to see some new faces today; Barbara who has just started running again after having her baby and Hilary from Tuesday nights. Well done to Dave who came 2nd today and Ali who was 2nd lady. Thanks to Debra, Craig, Lauren and Suki for their support.

Just about perfect running weather this morning. Apart from the rain that is... The funniest thing I have seen for a while was the men trying to put the gazebo up to protect the laptops from the weather. Rolls of sticky tape and a lot of luck! Thanks to Sam and others though, there will be a new gazebo soon because they won the most miles Nike+ challenge. Well done! Thanks to Jaz, Janice and Amar for their support this morning. Great to see Nicky back at parkrun too.

parkrun Leeds' 2nd birthday today.

Happy Birthday parkrun
Two years ago 15 brave souls set foot on the first parkrun outside of London. Two years later, almost that same number toed the line as members of VARR in a record field of 234. Remarkable given that the Harewood 10 – part of the club championship – was the next day.
Fun, not PBs, was the order of the day. The wind partly dictated this. There was a sprinkling of woolly hats sold in aid of charity, and a lot of self congratulatory applause and cheers at the start line.
Yet the wind didn’t blunt all the team. Dave McGuire put in his second fastest run since June finishing in fourth place in 18 mins exactly, whilst Sam Dooley’s 19:36 was identical to his previous week’s run despite great conditions seven days earlier….and poor Bernadette Butler missed her best by the slenderest of margins – 1 second – surely a PB to come.
Kate Pankhurst’s 27:38 was her first parkrun, and the injury prone Paul Warren made it to the start line in his VARR colours for just his third run. Andy Brown “doubling him” with his sixth appearance. Unlike “veterans” Paul Sanderson, Liz Green, Linda Glendinning, Rick Pullen, Ellie Dooley and Mike Jameson who notched up collectively 315 appearances between them ( 73, 71, 59, 44, 41 and 27 respectively. )
The running numbers were completed by Kay recovering from a bout of lurgee, and Russell recovery from a bout of excessive mileage. Non runners helping out and enjoying the atmosphere include Tom and Helen Williams and Surinder “Bangers” Bangerh.
Porridge and coffee accompanied the annual awards in the refectory. VARRs were very much to the fore in the points competition (see below) indicating the support and affection that we give it as a team. Here’s to the third year!
