4 from run club and 1 relative travelled down to sheffield to do the inaugral great yorkshire run on sunday 9th September, organised by great run and sponsored by bupa same as for the great north run but 10k in distance not half-marathon. For some it was the first 10k, for some the first after lay-off due to injury and for one the day after a 14mile marathon training run so storming results for all:
Debra and Dawn (Kay's step-daughter) 1 hour
Nikki Woodward 1 hour 6
Kay Fawcett 1 hour 9
Jaz Bangerh 1 hour 25
All in all an excellent race as you would expect from Great run events. Began with a minutes applause in memory of Jane Tomlinson's achievements. the start was staggered into waves according to ability and only those with a certified time could go in the top waves which meant there was very little congestion, unlike for those of us who did Jane's 10k in June. The route was an out and back one which meant we could see the elite returning, and dream that we could run that fast. several bands, many locals out to cheer and a run-through shower to boot, very reminiscent of Newcastle's great north run which is only 3 weeks away! Bring it on!!Also, an extra special well done to Jaz who has gone from a complete non-runner to 10k runner in a matter of weeks! She was running in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and would be really pleased if you popped over to her website and donated a couple of quid (I just have)...
